Product Description Average teenager Peter Parker is transformed into an extraordinary super hero after he is accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider. When his beloved uncle is savagely murdered during a robbery, young Peter vows to use his powers to avenge his death. Deeming himself "Spider-Man", he sets about ridding the streets of crime, bringing him into conflict with malevolent super-villain "Green Goblin." Set Contains: Released alongside a three-disc deluxe edition to coincide with the theatrical release of Spider-Man 2, the Superbit version of Spider-Man offers a sharper, more brilliant picture, a DTS soundtrack, and--unusual for a Superbit release--a brand-new extra, a commentary track by star Tobey Maguire. He's joined by J.K. Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson, and if Simmons is a bit lacking in star power (Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi appear on the commentary track of the deluxe edition), he does contribute energy and a voice for Maguire to bounce his stories off of. The two joke about the upcoming sequels (Maguire: "They'll have to recast me as Uncle Ben one of these days"), and Maguire reveals his workout regimen and the pain he endured for the role, even in the famous upside-down kiss. If you're looking for just one DVD version of Spider-Man, the deluxe edition has good picture and sound and two discs worth of bonus materials, a number of which were not on the original two-disc version. But if having the best version for your high-end home-theater system is more important to you than bonus features--or if you already have the two-disc version--the Superbit is the way to go, and the new commentary track is icing on the cake. --David Horiuchi
